OUR WINDOWS ON THE WORLD: EYES
Each organ in our bodies is very important to
us. Our l ives would change if even only one of them
were mi ss ing. For exampl e , our eyes… Did you ever
think what you would have done i f you didn’ t have
your eyes? You wouldn’ t be able to know what your
parents, brothers or sisters, or friends look l ike. You
wouldn’t be able to see al l the beautiful things. You
wouldn’t be able to play most of the games you now
do. You wouldn’t be able to read this book or see
the colourful pictures in it . You wouldn’t be able to
imagine what a rabbi t or a dog looks l ike, because
you would never have seen one. You wouldn’t be able
t o wat ch car t oons on TV . You wou l dn ’ t be ab l e t o
perform your tasks with ease. You might not even be
able to find your way around home. You wouldn’t
be able to see any colours or shapes, nor would
you know what l ight is or be able to notice any
of these things. The l ist is endless.
A l l ah c r ea t ed a l l human s w i t h e y e s
with which they can see. Al lah has given
humans this very important asset .
Our eyes serve very impor tant funct i ons .
They pe r form c r i t i ca l proce s s e s of wh i ch we ar e
completely unaware, and only after which we can see
around.
Let us briefly examine how we see:
Every object in the world reflects and emits l ight
on to i ts surroundings . For instance , whi l e you are
looking at this book, the l ight reflected and emitted
f r om t h i s book i s go i ng t o t he ba c k o f you r e y e
through your pupi l .
T h i s l i gh t , a f t e r go i ng t h r ough a s e r i e s o f
processes at the back of your eye, turns into an
electrical signal . This electrical signal goes to
your bra i n . At the back of your bra i n i s the
centre of vision that makes it possible for you
