C a n A t o m s T h i n k ?
As we explained earl ier, after
the B i g Bang , par t i c l es emerged
and came together as ATOMS. Wel l ,
do you know what an atom is?
Let us first explain to you what
an atom i s l ike . We can compare the atoms to
ma r b l e s . Bu t t he s e ma r b l e s wou l d be t oo t i ny ,
unl ike anything you have seen before.
Now, look around you! Everything that you see
in real ity is made of these marbles, namely the
atoms . The chai r on whi ch you are s i tt ing, the
book in your hand, your mother, your teacher at
schoo l , the te l ev i s i on that you watch , app l es ,
melons, and the chocolates in the kitchen, your
pet, water, the flowers in your garden, your toys,
and e v en you r body , a l l a r e made up o f t he s e
atoms. As we explained earl ier, the stars and suns
that make up the un i ver se and the wor l d i n
whi ch we l i ve are al so formed of atoms just
l i k e you . I n a l l t he p l a c e s i n wh i c h you go
about and al l the corners that you turn, there
are atoms.
You cannot see these l i t t l e th i ngs that we
cal l atoms , because they are a lot smal l er than
you can imagine. They are so smal l that even with
the largest microscopes, it isn’t possible to see
even one of them. To be able to comprehend the
tiny size of the atom, look at this example:
Imagine that you have a key in
your hand. Wi thout a doubt , i t i s
