Going to the theatre was very popular in
ancient Greece. The Greeks wrote many
plays, including tragedies and comedies.
People watched their favourite plays in
large outdoor theatres, like the one above.
About 2,500 years ago, Greece was
made up of powerful “city-states”, such
as Athens and Sparta, which fought
wars against each other.
