As we explained to you before , the t iniest part
that makes up animate and inanimate things is the
atom. This means that in real ity, you are made up of
bi l l ions of atoms that have come together .
When ear th appeared for the f i r s t t ime , there
we r e no c r ea t u r e s on i t . T he r e we r e on l y s ome

Darwin—say that one day some of these atoms came
together by chance. This means that there was
a strong wind or maybe a cyclone one day
after earth was formed, and it helped these atoms
come together . What happened to these atoms after
that, you ask?
According to Darwin’ s story, these atoms joined
to make ce l l s . As you know, eve ry l i v i ng th i ng i s
made up of cel ls. The cel ls unite to make our eyes,
ears, blood, heart, and in short, al l of our body and
t he c e l l s a r e v e r y c omp l e x . I t i s impo s s i b l e f o r
some th i ng so comp l ex to be made of atoms that
have come together by chance.
In a ce l l , there are hundreds of d i f ferent t i ny
organs . We cou l d r e l at e the ce l l to an enormous
factory except that we have to remember that it is
o r gan i c and no t me c han i c a l ; i t i s j u s t a way o f
