final word on the reality of the universe. The fact
that the universe cannot be explained in terms of
human knowledge is aptly illustrated by Ian
Roxburgh when he writes:
The laws of physics discovered on earth contain
arbitrary numbers, like the ratio of the mass of an
electron to the mass of a proton, which is roughly
1840 to one. Why? Did a creator arbitrarily choose
these numbers?

When the Quran specifically states that God is the
absolute Sovereign Lord of this universe, that He
“accomplishes what He pleases” (14:27) and that He
is the Executor of His own will (85:16), we need not
even ask ourselves the kind of question Ian
Roxburgh put. For thousands of years, this concept
of God was an established one, quite beyond
dispute. Now, from the point of extreme
materialism the pendulum of belief has swung back
to the immutable and unassailable laws of the
Quran.
