Zulaykhah heard their vicious gos-
sip and felt very sad. How could
they understand her loneliness?
How could they understand her love
for Yusuf? How could they know the
admiration she had for his wonder-
ful character and his great beauty?
Zulaykhah wanted to teach them all
a lesson. One day she invited all the
noble ladies of the city to a banquet
in her palace. As they settled down
to the feast, Zulaykhah handed
each a sharp knife and an apple.
Just as they began to slice the
apples she opened the door and
called for Yusuf. When the hand-
some Yusuf entered it seemed as if
the sun, shining in all its splendor,
had entered the hall. The ladies
gasped for breath. They had never
before seen such beauty and could
not believe that this was a human
being. They were so enchanted by
