Yusuf to come with us and play in
the fields? Why don’t you trust us?
What are you afraid of? He is our
dear, little brother whom we all love
very much. We only want what is
good for him. Let him come along
with us tomorrow and play in the
fields. We will guard him well.

Ya‘qub [a] was an old, wise man.
He knew of the jealousy of the
brothers and was fearful. He had
never before allowed Yusuf to go
too far. But he did not want to offend
his elder sons either, so he said, “
I
think that you will not take proper
care of him. He is so small and I
fear that a wolf may attack and kill
him while you are distracted by your
sport and play.
”
“
O no, father! You need not worry at
all
,” they replied
.
“
We are strong,
young men? No wolf would dare
come near us.
”
