As they approached
Nabi
Yusuf [a]
looked up at them. He was amazed
to see the very brothers who had
cast him into a well, so many years
ago, standing humbly before him.
Although it had been twenty years
since he had seen them last,
Nabi
Yusuf [a] recognized his brothers
immediately.
They, not surprisingly, did not rec-
ognize him at all. How could they
have ever imagined that the little
boy whom they had thrown down a
deep well could have survived,
much less risen to become the
prime minister of Egypt?
Nabi
Yusuf [a] too remembered how
they had thrown him into the well,
how they had wished for him to die
there, but he did not say a word to
them.
